Crocheting Toys
This year I will be making a lot of Christmas presents. One reason is because it seems that there is nothing for sale that is really personal anymore. Everything is so mass produced that it’s harder to find gifts that are tailored to folks. By making gifts I can at least ensure that it is something that fits their personality and tastes.
For her birthday, I made my sister-in-law a small amigurumi elephant since she is a big Alabama Crimson Tide fan. She really liked it as well as some other family members. They really seemed to like that it was something handmade just for her. So, I think handmade gifts would go over well this Christmas.
For some people, I have found some cute patterns of crochet animals. These cute toys will be soft and hopefully adorable. There are so many free patterns and books dedicate to crochet toys that the hardest part of doing this will be narrowing down what all I want to make.
Crochet toys take a small amount of yarn. It can be a great way to get rid of some of your stash that is not large enough to make anything else. You will also need some fiberfill and if desired, some safety eyes. The craft store has safety eyes for 99 cents a pack. That will get you about four pair of eyes. Crochet toys are also fast to make since most just call for the single crochet and single stitch. I like those fast projects. It’s always nice to see progress after a few hours or even better be finished with a project.
Lion Brand has a lot of free crochet amigurumi animal patterns. You will have to register to view them and registration is free.
