Make Your Own Cards

by Summer M.

Jummy of Getting Crafty has some fun challenges going on. You are challenged to make your own cards for the holidays. I wasn’t able to get in the Christmas card challenge, but there is a birthday card challenge coming up that I hope everyone will be a part of.

Funky handmade cards are always so much fun to give and receive. You can get creative and let your imagination flow. And who doesn’t love getting a one of a kind card made jsut for them rather than the same old cards everyone else bought at the store. Just ask Mommy Zabs, who saw such a graet idea that she put together Card My Christmas, a fun christmas card shop that uses your own photos to make great one of a kind cards.

Handmade cards are also a huge hit on Etsy. So many creative types are cutting, gluing, and sewing up unique cards. Any reason you might have to give a card you can find a great one to give. And maybe even some inspiration to make your own.

Since I didn’t get to enter the Christmas card challenge I thought I could at least share my idea. Feel free to take it and make it your own.

This was my design. When I think Christmas I think snow, so I wanted a card that would reflect that. The background would be solid dark blue with a smaller powder blue rectangle in the center. Across the lower half a thick stripe of dark blue snow inspired paper. And across the top a single snowflake, possibly with a small jewel glued to the center.

Here is a look at the paper I had planned to use. I love this snowy winter paper. It always make me want a cup of hot cocoa.

And my cute little snowflake. I never did find a clear jewel to glue to the center. This craft made it clear to me that my paper craft supplies are dwindling. Time to get more!

About Creative Mom Cafe

Creative Mom Cafe is the place to come and try your hand at something you thought you could never do or to get an idea you would never have had on your own. Most of the ideas I bring to 'the Cafe' are simple and for the creativity-challenged but every now and then I will throw in a doozie for those of you who are waiting for it. Every month will have a theme and all ideas that month will tie in to that theme. It may be fun recipes for kids, a scrapbooking idea, an organizational tip or anything else that is in my head that month. I invite you to send your photos of projects you have done and at the end of the month I will highlight one or two "fan" projects! Thanks, stop in the Cafe as often as you can!
