Polymer Animals
My mom bought the three-year-old some Play Doh! and the first thing we had to make was some animals. We made a couple of snakes and a mouse. She has been playing with those all afternoon which made me think about the polymer clay I have tucked away in the crafting drawer.
I had thought about free handing them but may hold off a few days and pick up a mold. Whatever animal we make, we will have to make at least two - one Mommy and one baby. So having a mold might make it easier. Plus she can get more involved in making them.
If I need inspiration, then I can just look at this Flickr pool for polymer animals. Those look way beyond what I was imagining but are so cute.
We will probably start out simple. I think I’ve seen a mold for a puppy and might can freehand a snake and mouse. It will be fun to try it out as we have had a blast with the Play Doh! today.
Also this will give me a reason to actually use some of that polymer clay I bought. It’s one of those things I bought with every intention on using within a few weeks of purchase. But like so many things, the polymer clay was placed in a drawer and forgotten about.
I hope the animals turn out to be somewhat durable as I’m sure the three-year-old will be playing with them a lot - or at least while they are still new to her.
Cooking polymer clay is still a little touch and go with our temperamental oven. The few items I have made have turned out OK through the hardening process. Let’s hope my luck holds up.
