Pumpkin Craft Idea

by

I have been staring at this small square of material for weeks. It is light and dark orange with tiny black dots. I’ve been wanting to do something with it but wasn’t sure what. The color reminded me so much of Halloween, but I didn’t have any great ideas in mind. Then yesterday afternoon I came across a perfect craft idea. A pumpkin garden flag! I picked out a great white and black pocka dot background and some green material to make a stem.

I’m not doing mine exactly like the directions say, but it is still turning out cute. I free-hand drew my pumpkin because I wanted a larger one that the image in the pattern. I also drew myown face and cut it out of some black canvas scraps I had. Once I had an idea of where I wantd everything I hand stitched the stem of the pumpkin into place. That was the most labor intensive part, mostly because I’m not very good at hand stitching.

That was my stopping point because my boys wanted to make pumpkins of their own. I found this great idea for hanging paper pumpkins that they loved and were easy enough to make. They color in two pumpkin images, sew or staple them togther, and stuff with newspaper strips to fill out the round shape. At the bottom are some Lesson Connections to tie in the craft with a lesson plan. Perfect for homeschoolers doing Halloween lessons. It also does not cost a lot to make, which is great for anyone needing to have a frugal Halloween this year.

About Creative Mom Cafe

Creative Mom Cafe is the place to come and try your hand at something you thought you could never do or to get an idea you would never have had on your own. Most of the ideas I bring to 'the Cafe' are simple and for the creativity-challenged but every now and then I will throw in a doozie for those of you who are waiting for it. Every month will have a theme and all ideas that month will tie in to that theme. It may be fun recipes for kids, a scrapbooking idea, an organizational tip or anything else that is in my head that month. I invite you to send your photos of projects you have done and at the end of the month I will highlight one or two "fan" projects! Thanks, stop in the Cafe as often as you can!
