Start a Creative Business

Sewing SuppliesA lot of creative moms are looking for a way to craft and earn a little extra money. Yes, having fun and sharing a skill that you love is important. But earning a little somethign on the side is pretty good too. That is why sites like Etsy are blowing up right now. Being able to stay home, do what you love, and make money is a huge draw.

I am sure that most people who are rading this have a blog. Probably most people in Amrica have a blog, even if they aren’t using it. If not it is so simple to put one together. And having a working blog can be a big help to a small crafting business. Not sure where to start? Check out 6 Questions to Really Ask Before You Start a (Craft) Blog. These are great questions to ask yourself and will help you get a feel of where you might need to motivate yourself. Organization? Creativity? Time to write? If you have been blogging for fun and want to start a blog to go with your creative venture, and hopefully pull in more customers, be sure to at least get yourself familiar with the basics of professional blogging. You won’t need to be a wiz, but knowing how to market yourself or stand out from the crowd can be useful.

Of course before you ven start a blog you should have a plan in mind. What are you going to make, where are you going to sell it, how are you going to get started? Craft Boom has A checklist of 10 things you’ll need to start selling your crafts online. This is definintely a good list to go over as you begin your creative venture. Some of these things people don’t even think of. Such as a seperate bank account for your craft business.

There is more to becoming a crafty business mom than just making the goods and selling them. Hopefully these tips will help you get off on a good start!

Creative Mom Cafe is the place to come and try your hand at something you thought you could never do or to get an idea you would never have had on your own. Most of the ideas I bring to 'the Cafe' are simple and for the creativity-challenged but every now and then I will throw in a doozie for those of you who are waiting for it. Every month will have a theme and all ideas that month will tie in to that theme. It may be fun recipes for kids, a scrapbooking idea, an organizational tip or anything else that is in my head that month. I invite you to send your photos of projects you have done and at the end of the month I will highlight one or two "fan" projects! Thanks, stop in the Cafe as often as you can!
