Why Handmade Gifts?

sewing suppliesOne of the reasons I feel that buying or making handmade toys is so important is that it is a way to provide safe toys for our children. I have always been a bit picky about what toys my children play with. Plastic is a big concern in our home, for safety as well as environmental reasons. As the toy recalls grow larger and larger it seems that making our own toys is the ony way any mom can guarantee safe toys for her kids.

I am sure everyone knows by now about the Aqua Dots/Bindeez recalls. This takes a large chunk out of the toy market this year, a market already declining because of so many concerns.

I hope this year that many parents see that when it comes to toys less is more. Kids do not need 50,000 toys sitting under their tree. And for the few toys that they do get show them that it is the thought that counts by putting more thought than money into your gift choices.

About Creative Mom Cafe

Creative Mom Cafe is the place to come and try your hand at something you thought you could never do or to get an idea you would never have had on your own. Most of the ideas I bring to 'the Cafe' are simple and for the creativity-challenged but every now and then I will throw in a doozie for those of you who are waiting for it. Every month will have a theme and all ideas that month will tie in to that theme. It may be fun recipes for kids, a scrapbooking idea, an organizational tip or anything else that is in my head that month.
